The COAS biological oceanography faculty have formal degrees in biology, chemistry, geology, physics and marine science from colleges and universities throughout the United States and overseas (e.g., Australia, Belgium, Chile). They serve on numerous national and international committees, as well as on the editorial boards of scientific journals from around the world (e.g., Journal of Phycology, Progress in Oceanography, Limnology and Oceanography, Marine Ecology Progress Series, Limnology and Oceanography-Methods). All of them are actively involved in graduate education and most teach on a regular basis.

In addition to the regular faculty, there are presently four emeritus professors that remain active within their respective fields. In fact, for most it is quite difficult to determine that they’ve actually retired. While the COAS biological oceanography faculty maintains active collaborations with literally hundreds of colleagues from around the world, there are several people that because they are especially active within the College are listed as adjunct or courtesy faculty.
